Properties
1. Chemical Resistance
- Contrary to paper decorative foil, KumKang PP Sheet has no porous structure and the inherent stability of the material makes it resistant against many chemicals and harmful substances including common household reagents.
- Especially, the water resistance protects any surface damage caused by infiltration of the water through the foil and the substrate. In combination with the vapour barrier properties, the excellent water resistance will give a good application in any weather condition.
2. Heat Stability
- PP has a high melting temperature(Tm) of 168 but PVC without any incorporation of plasticizer retains a glass transition temperature(Tg) of 78 Furthermore PVC exhibits drastically remarkable drop in Tg when the plasticizer is incorporated.
- The characteristic behavior of the vicat softening point curve features PP has a high softening point of more than double of PVC foils.
- Higher heat stability can be related to higher service temperature which renders furniture stronger to high temperature circumstances.
3. Emboss Retention
- Emboss Retention for the thermoplastic film relates to the viscoelastic property of the material. The instant heat which the material keeps at a time of embossing and the intrinsic heat stability alike are very important factors to determine how high it maintains its embossing texture without any significant reductions.
- Emboss Retention must be carefully considered for the processing on hot roll lamination presses or going through the hot press rolls.
- Vicat Softening Point / DSC Curve
4. Wet heat resistance
- Paper decorative foils are very vulnerable to moisture attack, and their applications can be hampered in areas of high moisture conditions or in tropical climates. Even though they are impregnated with some resins, they can be swollen after a long exposure to humid weather, incurring surface damages and delamination away from the substrate.
- The characteristic behavior of the vicat softening point curve features PP has a high softening point of more than double of PVC foils.
- Higher heat stability can be related to higher service temperature which renders furniture stronger to high temperature circumstances.
5. Barrier against Formaldehyde gas
- UF (Urea Formaldehyde) glue is still used for manufacturing chipboard to bind small particles of chips. But the excessive formaldehyde freed from chemical reactions for bonding goes out through the board matrix and emits through the air.
- However, with the increasing use of chipboard in the field of furniture and interior finish, .this concentrated formaldehyde gas in living rooms and bed rooms causes health hazards.
- After intensive research in most European countries, maximum tolerance of formaldehyde.gas of 0.1 ~ 0.2 ppm in room air was legally fixed.
This makes it necessary to avoid or to reduce the emission from the substrates by suitable laminates. KumKang PP Sheet blocks the emission of formaldehyde gas through the substrate and is formaldehyde-free itself as well.
